Transforming waste into energy: California’s local vision

In the race for renewable energy, can we consider waste a resource like any other ? At the Palo Alto conference organized by Agrion in late February, several companies presented their technology and view of the key developments in the waste sector in the United States and around the world. Two major ideas emerged : focus on “zero waste” and reflect on local solutions.

Every day thousands of trucks roam city streets to collect waste from voluntary recycling points for materials such as glass, paper, and cardboard. These collections often clog traffic and adds to the emission of air pollutants from trucks. The company aEnergis launched an innovative system that synchs collection with necessity, monitoring the fullness of containers, whether above or belowground.

European cities towards electric mobility

Cities are responsible for nearly 80% of carbon dioxide emissions, and in the EU transport accounts for around 25% of those emissions. The EVUE (Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) project within the URBACT Programme provides a platform for cities to learn together how best to increase the use of electric vehicles.
